All third graders in Wake County take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT), an aptitude test that helps us learn more about our students' strengths and weaknesses. Students scoring in the 85th percentile or higher on the CogAT will be offered a follow-up achievement test via the Iowa Test of Basic Skills.
Parents will be notified in writing of CogAT scores and permission forms will be distributed for those students taking the ITBS. AIG Nominations and individualized testing, as needed, will occur in the second semester. Identification decisions will be made by the School Based Committee for Gifted Education (SBC-GE) by end of the school year for AIG services in 4th grade.
